Fort Bragg NC Soldier Opens Fire On Police

This occurred in Favyetteville, NC, early Saturday morning.  Two police officers and the shooter were injured.  The soldier’s name has not been released.

I was talking to my father, retired infantry soldier, about soldiers that are deployed in a combat area.  These soldiers are placed under a great deal of stress.  The longer that they are deployed, the more stressed they are.  Their humanity can be broken down to the point that they are no longer able to tell right from wrong.  They simply react to their environment.

As a civilian, our first thoughts may be that this is a bad soldier.  A rotten apple.  After talking with my father, I realize that this is not the case.  This may be a case of a good man pushed beyond his breaking point.  He could have snapped, had a complete breakdown.  Soldiers that return from a war situation can suffer from PTSD, and require treatment. As this story develops over the next few days and weeks, I’m sure his state of mind will be investigated.

Youngsville NC Cop Steals Lottery Tickets

This Youngsville, NC police officer was caught cashing in stolen lottery tickets at various supermarkets.  I know times are tough, but really?  This one bad officer gives the brave men and women that serve in the law enforcement field a bad name.  I have a strong respect for police officers.  When one is caught breaking the law, it doesn’t shake my faith in the law enforcement community in general.  It simply reminds me that they are human.
